About Paul
PLG Musical Services is named after its creator, Paul Ghica. A Romanian-born, U.S.-trained musician now living in Australia, Paul enjoys a varied career that includes performing, teaching, producing, and composing.
As a cellist, performance credits include Co-Principal with the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, as well as series at Chicago's House Of Blues, Peninsula Hotel, and Off-Broadway in New York. He currently freelances with the Opera Australia Orchestra (including guest principal roles) and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra; he has also enjoyed guest work with the Melbourne Chamber Orchestra, Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, and Orchestra Victoria. Non-classical engagements include X Factor Australia, Australia's Got Talent, and Dancing with the Stars Australia, as well as session work for studios such as Trackdown and Song Zu.
Paul has 15 years teaching experience, including positions on staff at Rising Stars Open Academy (University of Sydney Conservatorium of Music), and previously at the Merit School of Music in Chicago. Students range from amateur adults to young competition winners and Rising Stars award recipients. Mentors and pedagogy influences include János Starker, Richard Hirschl, Melissa Kraut, Barbara Haffner, Gary Stucka, Katinka Kleijn, and Lynn Harrell.
An avid proponent of propelling classical music into the 21st century, Paul has spearheaded the push to make performances possible online. Equal parts producer, recording engineer, and filmographer, he combines his unique skill set with his understanding of the mechanics of music to create perfectly synchronized performances, even if the musicians are on the other side of the world from each other. He has served as a consultant for musicians, schools, and universities across Australia, helping with online-based performance and teaching platforms. He has also composed and arranged various projects for music production studios such as Song Zu.
